The Best Robotic Pool Cleaners for Algae: Dolphin Picks
Not all robotic pool cleaners are built the same. These are the machines we'd put in a pool for Algae — chosen for filtration, coverage, and reliability, and every one is a genuine Dolphin.
The term "robotic pool cleaner" covers everything from bargain floor-only vacuums to commercial-grade machines. When you're shopping for Algae, the difference between the wrong robot and the right one is filtration, coverage, and build quality — three areas where Dolphin robots by Maytronics consistently lead.
Algae is a two-part problem: it clings to surfaces as a slick film, and once you break it loose it becomes a cloud of fine particles. A robot that only vacuums won't cut it — you need mechanical scrubbing plus fine filtration.
What to look for in a robotic pool cleaner for Algae
Beating algae takes active brushing to physically scrub the biofilm off floors, walls, and the waterline, combined with fine filtration to capture the freed particles before they resettle. Wall and waterline climbing is essential because algae loves the tile line and shaded walls. Balance your water chemistry first, then let the robot do the mechanical work.
- Active scrubbing brushes (HyperBrush)
- Wall & waterline climbing
- Fine / Nano filtration for freed algae
- Full-surface coverage, not floor-only

Frequently asked questions
Will a robotic pool cleaner get rid of algae?
A robot with active brushes scrubs algae off surfaces and its fine filter captures the debris, which dramatically speeds up clearing a green pool. For a full bloom, shock and balance the water first, then run the robot daily until clear.
Do I need wall climbing for algae?
Yes. Algae thrives on walls and the waterline, so a robot that climbs and scrubs those areas — like the Sigma or Quantum — clears it far better than a floor-only cleaner.
How often should I run the robot during an algae bloom?
Daily until the water is clear, rinsing the filter between runs. After that, 2–3 times a week keeps algae from returning.
