Gen-2 ultra-fine filtration

Dolphin NanoFilters™

The Gen-2 ultra-fine filter panels every ProLine™ ships with, as a spare set for the Premier, Sigma and Quantum or the filtration upgrade for the Max-Series™ Escape and Cayman. They catch the dust, pollen, sand and algae a standard panel lets back into the pool, and rinse clean with a hose.

Why NanoFilters

Cleaner water, not just a cleaner floor.

A standard Dolphin panel is a mesh built to hold leaves, twigs and grit. NanoFilters™ are pleated ultra-fine panels that also trap the particles that pass straight through mesh: fine dust, sand, pollen, algae and the haze that keeps water from sparkling. Same basket, same robot, a different result.

Before and After

What one NanoFilter cycle pulls out of "clean" water.

The panel on the left went in white. Everything on the right is the fine dust, pollen and algae a standard mesh panel would have pushed straight back into the pool.

Know the Difference

Mesh holds leaves. Pleats hold dust.

Maytronics rates the standard mesh panels that ship with most Dolphins at roughly 100 microns, enough for leaves, twigs and grass. Its ultra-fine pleated panels go far finer, which is where sand, dirt, pollen and algae get caught. Maytronics recommends running the first cycle of the season on the mesh panels and switching to ultra-fine once the heavy debris is out.

Drops Into the MaxBin™

More basket, finer panels.

The Max-Series™ MaxBin™ is about 50% larger than earlier Dolphin filters and the Quantum's XXL MaxBin™ is 225% larger, so a set of NanoFilters has room to load up with fine debris before flow drops. The panels snap into the same basket the standard panels came out of.

Rinse, Reuse, Replace

A hose is the whole maintenance plan.

Lift the basket out after each cycle and rinse the panels with a garden hose; they go back in wet. Watch the color: when a NanoFilter no longer rinses back to white, fine particles have packed the pleats and it is time for a fresh set. A second basket means one set is always dry and ready.

How to clean Dolphin filters ›
Fitting the Panels

Swap panels in about a minute.

No tools for the side panels on most baskets, a Phillips screwdriver for the front and back on some. Maytronics has a video for every basket style.

  1. Open the lid, lift the basket

Pull the filter cover, lift the MaxBin™ or cartridge basket straight out of the robot and tip out any loose debris.

  2. Pop the old panels

Press the plastic tab at the top of the wide side and the panel pops out. Side panels lift free; some front and back panels unscrew.

  3. Slide the NanoFilters in

Seat each new panel in its channel until it clicks, drop the basket back in and close the lid. Rinse after the first cycle.

Buying Guide

Dolphin NanoFilters vs. UltraFilters: not the same part

Both names mean ultra-fine filtration, but they fit different robots. NanoFilters™ are the Gen-2 panels for the top-loading baskets on the ProLine™ and Max-Series™: the Quantum's XXL MaxBin™, the Escape and Cayman MaxBin™, and the Premier and Sigma cartridges. The UltraFilters kit is a conversion for Dolphins that ship with a filter bag, such as the Nautilus Pool Up: it adds a filter base and four ultra-fine panels so the robot can run cartridges instead of the bag.

If you own a Premier, Sigma or Quantum you already have NanoFilters and this page is where the spare set lives. If you own an Escape or Cayman, this is the single upgrade that changes what the water looks like, and the NanoFilter MaxBin™ set lets you keep the standard basket for leaf season and swap in seconds. Pair it with the weekly timer power supply and the pool gets polished on a schedule.

Questions & Answers

Dolphin NanoFilters: frequently asked questions

Which Dolphin robots include NanoFilters in the box?

Every ProLine robot: the Dolphin Quantum ships with XXL NanoFilter panels and standard panels, the Premier with NanoFilters, an oversized leaf bag and standard filters, and the Sigma with a NanoFilter set. The Max-Series Escape and Cayman ship with standard MaxBin panels, and NanoFilters are their filtration upgrade.

Do NanoFilters fit the Dolphin Escape and Cayman?

Yes. Both take the NanoFilter MaxBin set, a complete second basket already fitted with NanoFilter panels, or the panels-only set that refits the MaxBin you already have. The Quantum uses its own XXL set.

What is the difference between the MaxBin set and the panels-only set?

The MaxBin set is a whole second basket with NanoFilter panels installed, so you can swap baskets in seconds and keep one rinsed and dry. The panels-only set is cheaper and replaces the standard panels inside the basket you have.

What do NanoFilters catch that standard filters do not?

The ultra-fine particles that pass straight through a mesh panel: fine dust, sand, pollen, algae and the haze that makes water look cloudy. Maytronics rates its standard mesh panels at roughly 100 microns and its ultra-fine panels far finer, which is why the water looks polished after a NanoFilter cycle.

Should I run NanoFilters all the time?

Run the standard panels for the first cycle of the season and on heavy-leaf days, because they hold more bulk and keep flow high. Switch to NanoFilters once the big debris is out, and for pollen, dust, algae and swim-season upkeep.

How do I clean NanoFilters, and when do I replace them?

Lift the basket out after each cycle and rinse the panels with a garden hose; they go straight back in wet. Replace them when they no longer rinse back to white, which means fine particles have packed the pleats.

Are NanoFilters the same as the UltraFilters kit?

No. NanoFilters are panels for the ProLine and Max-Series baskets listed on this page. The UltraFilters kit is a bag-to-cartridge conversion for bag-filter Dolphins such as the Nautilus Pool Up.

Do NanoFilters fit the Nautilus CC series?

No. These sets are made for the Premier, Sigma, Quantum, Escape and Cayman baskets. For a Nautilus-style bag basket, see the UltraFilters kit; for other models, send us your serial number and we will find the right filter.
