The answer

What to know.

Pool alkalinity increaser is a chemical designed to raise low alkalinity levels. Most products use sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) as the active ingredient.

You may need it:

  • After heavy rain
  • After draining or refilling water
  • After adding acid to lower pH
  • During routine water balancing

Note: Alkalinity increaser can gradually increase pH. Sodium bicarbonate mainly raises alkalinity while causing only a small increase in pH.
